2025-2026 SEASON

audition & company requirements

There are two ways to audition for Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company for the 2025-2026 season in order of our preference:

1. Attend our Movers+Makers dance and choreography intensive on June 12-14 in Provo so directors can watch you through all the important stages of company work – class, rehearsal and performance. Apply by May 22.

2. Attend the final two classes of the intensive which will take place June 14, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 12:45 PM. Registration for this option will be open from May 30-June 11. Please plan a 30-60 second solo and bring your own music on a device of your choice. Directors will ask to see select solos from 12:15-12:45 PM.

about the company

The Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company is a nonprofit organization and professional performance company in Provo, UT with roots going back to March 2010. WCDC’s mission is to invite in the Utah County community, encourage reflection, and stir to positive action. We are building a creative and compassionate community through dance.

WCDC is known for its emotive and athletic contemporary style, with focus on narrative and thematic work. The company champions movement for both the traditional proscenium as well as for unconventional spaces. The company endeavors to transport and educate audiences through the use of driving personal stories, dance film, immersive and interactive work, and exploring the whole of the emotional spectrum. It is important to Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company to meet audiences where they are – bringing both innovative and challenging works as well as accessible and lighthearted creations to the stage to appeal to a diverse audience.

Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company is the resident company at SMASH Dance Academy in north Provo. The company enjoys performing in multiple venues across Utah County, often presenting at Conrad Ranch in August, the Orem Library Hall in November, and trying out different unique, nonconventional performance spaces each April.

company structure & schedule

Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company is a part time performance company of 8-10 dancers. Rehearsals and class take place on Mondays from 10:00-1:00 PM, Wednesdays from 6:30-10:00 PM, and Fridays from 10:00-1:00 PM. Company members must commit to at least one of these three days, but it is preferred that company members commit to 2-3 of the rehearsal days. There are occasional rehearsals and other commitments on Saturdays. WCDC does not rehearse on Sundays. There are typically 2-3 weeks per year where company members rehearse more intensely during a guest artist residency as well.

Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company performs 4 times per year, and company members commit to at least 3 of these. The Fall and Spring concerts are required but company members can choose between performing for the August fundraising gala or the June Movers+Makers showcase. In addition to these performances, dancers have opportunities to perform as guests in other community events, teach, adjudicate or help at workshops, and gain other valuable experience.

In addition to rehearsing and performing, company members each take on one administrative task that takes roughly 10 hr to perform (for pay); tasks include fundraising, advertising, editing video, organizing costumes, training volunteers, and other company responsibilities. Company members also have the opportunity to teach (if interested) dance classes to all ages, from creative dance classes for children in local libraries, to masterclasses for youth dancers and workshops for adults. Payment is based on teacher’s qualifications and typically ranges from $25-$75/hr.

dancer pay

Company members are in the studio an average of 4-9 hours per week for 23 weeks out of the year and are paid $8.50 per rehearsal hour, including weekly rehearsals, tech and dress rehearsals (WCDC does not pay for dancers to take mandatory technique class though). Payment is made at the time of performance and is considered a performance stipend, even though it is directly proportional to the time spent rehearsing. On average company members make $810-$1475 per year for performance alone depending on how many rehearsals they are available for. Administrative tasks, guest performances, and teaching opportunities lead to additional pay as well, ranging from about $100-$550 in additional pay. Every year WCDC administrators work to increase dancers’ pay.
